NOIDA: The Noida Authority will impose heavy penalties – to the extent of cancelling the lease deeds of developers who have used space allotted for car parking spacess for other purposes, and have encroached upon public spaces around their offices and other commercial projects for parking. This they did to curb congestion in the city.
This was decided at a meeting held by Pravir Kumar, chairperson of the three Gautam Budh Nagar authorities, with the district magistrate, SP (city) and the Noida Traffic Cell on Monday. According to officials, notice to errant developers will be issued immediately and action will be taken within the next two weeks if the encroachments continue.
“We have initiated a multi-pronged decongestion plan, which includes focusing on parking, traffic and roads. Results will be seen in the next one month as we are going to take action against anyone who does not follow the norms,” said Kumar.
Kumar has directed officials to install 26 CCTV cameras at strategic spots in the city that witness heavy traffic. Saumya Srivastava, deputy CEO of Noida Authority, said, “These cameras will be installed on high-mast poles and will video graph commuters and allottees who allow parking in non-designated spaces.”
“A survey will be carried out of all sectors and a list will be prepared of spots where establishments have encroached on open spaces,” he added. Srivastava said several IT offices and other establishments have flouted the sanctioned building plans and converted parking spaces into cafeterias or other work spaces. “This has caused employees to park their vehicles on the roads. Action will be taken against such allottees,” he warned.
The Authority had launched a similar crackdown on developers in 2012, but the problem persists. Kumar said stricter action will be taken this time. “We will first issue notices to them and even after this if the developers and companies do not pay heed to it, we will cancel their lease deed,” he said.
